The low-speed Turn 4 is critical to get the former right as is Luffield which often witnesses opportunistic switchbacks from the drivers. On the other hand, the 2010 redesign did create one more semi-respectable overtaking spot – at Brooklands – to accompany the one at Stowe. *Medium fuel load, without flat-out corners Overtakingĭata suggests that it is moderately straightforward to overtake here but the statistics are highly skewed by the 2013 tyre-blowout race and the circuit is actually not that conductive to passing. This and the short flat-out sections both encourage high or maximum downforce aero settings. Despite the sustained high speeds, drivers do not spend too much time on full throttle here, mostly due to a well-worn asphalt. Setup, however, does need to be a healthy compromise between stiff and soft considering the importance of the low-speed turns (see below). Silverstone lost none of its high-speed character with the addition of the Arena section in 2010 from the Luffield hairpin to the Vale chicane it is still quick corners exclusively, especially in sector 2. Follow things seem bulletproof strategy-wise and rain can also wreak havoc in the high-speed sweepers of the one-time RAF airfield base. ![]()
